Madrid

Madrid is one of the most wonderful places to climb in Spain, sadly the window for climbing here is narrow. That said you get a good two months of beautiful weather that last from September to November. There is also a variety of rock climbing from the Granite Slabs and Cliffs of Northern Madrid, to the Pocketed Limestone of La Pantones and a short drive outside the beautiful Chodes and Calcena offer a more rural setting.

We base our Madrid Course either around Miraflores Del Seirra, a picturesque mountain village above madrid in the mountain to the North. This is the home of La Pedriza, La Cabrera and La Pantones. However we can also head across to Chodes and Calcena which is an even more remote area on the edge of the dry plains near Zaragoza.

Both areas offer some great sports climbing on limestone, however the granite slabs of Madrid also offer climbing with the feel of Toulomne Meadows in America. Both areas have a wide variety of grades from 5th to 7th grades.

Experience Required

Some climbing experience is helpful on ourMadrid area climbing courses. Although technically the climbing starts from around VS in standard, we will often get most people leading this by the end of the course.

If you are attending or wish to do some trad climbing then some knowledge of this would be of help, but again not essential.

Typical Day

A day out in Madrid will typically involve getting up having breakfast in the sun and then heading out to a crag for the day. Whilst some of the early days on the courses are more group coaching and sometimes a 1 to 4 ratio. By day three the days will be tailored to your specific needs and out coaches will hand pick the routes and crags specific for you. Some of the days may involve a long walk-ins to climb multi-pitch routes, but this is dependent on whether this is something you want to do.

Airport Details

We aim to pick you up from Adolfo Suárez Madrid–Barajas Airport on the first morning of the holiday and drop you off in the afternoon/evening of the last day. Please inform us of you flight details so we can add those details to the booking form.
