Riglos is one of the most famous yet infrequently visited climbing areas in Spain in the main because it is famous for the Fiesta Del Los Biceps on the Visera, a steep and very sustain 6c+ route. As such many people shy away from the area thinking the routes will be too hard. That simply is not the case, with several other less extreme towers and other easier sports routes Riglos should be on everyones bucket list of climbing destinations.
There are many easier routes in Riglos at 6b. In particular we look to guide you up Mosquitos and/or Muro Del Pison which have short lived hard sections. As well as these two classic routes there is also the fantastic Espolon De Gallego/Espolon Fuerte combination in the Pena Rueba area ten minutes drive away.
There are also many great routes on the small (100m high) towers just beyond the main towers. A short walk from the village. As such the climbing in Riglos would give you a fantastic weeks climbing on some of the world best conglomerate. This conglomerate can be loose in places but nothing too bad and often adds to a more adventurous feel than a standard sports climbing holiday.
Experience Required
Riglos is not really a beginners venue, however there are easy sports routes around HVS. As such climbing 6a/6b will be a good guideline if you want to climb the main towers. However a 6a climber would get a lot from being guided in this area.
Typical Day
We stay at the Refugio in Riglos and head out each morning when the sun comes onto the main faces and climb one or more multi pitch route. Roughly 6-10 pitches a day. We then return to the refugio for food.
Airport Details
We can pick you up from either Madrid, Zaragosa or even Bilbao. If we collect you from Bilbao we can climb in the Pamplona region on the way down. Similarly we can climb around Madrid or Zaragosa when we collect you from those venues. The drive is anything up to 3-4 hours from Bilbao and Madrid and about 1.5 hurst’s from Zaragoza.
